A bicycle rally has been held in Chitwan on the occasion of Global Recycling Day 2021. The rally was held in honor of the cleaners who have taken up the profession of collecting reusable discarded items by cycling every day.
The rally was organized by Recycle Sathi of Creation Nepal in coordination with Chitwan Kabadi Byawasayi Sangh, Better Chitwan, WAY Group Nepal, Nepal Development Society, Ek Sapana Cycle ra Safa Nepal, CESS, HDRD, Real Mardrid Fan Club and Ex-Gurkhaz with the theme #Dignity4All. started from Chaubiskothi in Bharatpur metropolis and ended at Shivghat.
At the rally, Bharatpur Metropolitan Chief Renu Dahal noted that sorting and reuse of garbage has been the major challenge of Municipality. She also paid tribute to the cleaners who kept the city clean by picking up garbage every day by putting red abir to them.
Baban Sah, a participant from Chitwan Kabadi Byawasayi Sangh, expressed happiness at being honored for his work. He said, ‘We collect garbage from the house everyday in cycle. But, we are always treated badly. Today I am very happy to be honored by Mayor and hundreds of people.’
Similarly, Raju Ramtel, secretary of the Kawadi Byawasayi Sangh, said that the bicycle rally was held to change the self-esteem of the professionals working in the garbage and the attitude of the society towards them. Suvarna Ghimire, environment coordinator of Better Chitwan and Chairperson of CESS mentioned that the rally was first time ever in the Chitwan which was organized in the honor of recyclable scrap collectors.
There were more than 150 participants in the rally.
